Last year, spurred on by the sad news of the slaughter by poachers of our rhino, we at The Success Academy decided that it was not good enough for us to sit on the sidelines any longer. We pooled our resources and hosted our first Gala Dinner on October 18, 2013. The funds we raised last year have been used to fund equipment at the Genetics Laboratory in Onderstepoort where sterling work is being done in collecting forensic evidence used in facilitating convictions. WESSA also used some of these funds in an education programme in the Kruger Park area.
In the last while we have had some important breakthroughs with the arrest of a major poaching syndicate, as well as the stepping up of security in rhino poaching hotspots and the Global March for Elephants and Rhinos on October 4th, which saw people in 136 cities across the globe show their support for everything that is being done to turn this situation around.
Realising that we cannot let-up on the momentum, we decided to host another Gala Dinner this year. It was a glittering event, featuring the very talented Louise Carver, a 3-course dinner and a live auction. As we did the last time, The Success Academy sponsored the entire event, which means that we were able to donate all the proceeds from the ticket sales and auction to WESSA a total of R465,000.00! Charl du Toit, the Founder and CEO of The Success Academy handed over the monies to representatives of WESSA on stage, entrusting them with the responsibility of using these funds wisely in the fight to save our rhinos from extinction.
We express our deep appreciation to the 400 guests that joined us on the night as well as all the artists who so generously contributed their work to make this event possible. We salute you all!
Thank you to our wonderful sponsors for your special contribution!
